Paintings that seek to make the intangible tangible.
My practise as a figurative painter is seemingly at odds with my
interest in the abstract. The concepts at play in the paintings derive
from the search for and critique of a contemporary sublime. Ongoing
research is bound by a number of threads that reoccur as conceptual
motifs and materialise in the seductive surface of the painted image. From this
conceptual departure each painting becomes an opportunity of formal
speculation. Through a process of making, fruitful outcomes materialise, enabling nuances between works to challenge the academic impetus.
